The
Bus Crash
The horizon’s glaze signaled the end of Dawn, the
sun’s peach and orange rays painting the indigo sky with spring colors at seven
o’clock in the morning. Animals in the small town of Bloomington were up
already, preparing for another cold February day similar to people of the town.
Inside a small house on the Northside of Bloomington, a young volunteer awaken
to struggling to see because of the sun. Closing her thick purple curtains, the
young girl grabbed her a neatly-ironed shirt, blue jeans, and a towel before
walking into the bathroom. The volunteer exited the bathroom ten minute later
dressed in a pink floral-designed shirt and bright blue jeans, and went into
the Kitchen.
“Good morning Cindy” A slightly older male hugged the
volunteer. “Good morning Henry” Cindy responded, before hugging back. The two
were step-siblings by marriage, but considered themselves blood siblings. Cindy
was a volunteer of the local forest preserve group in Bloomington, while Henry
was an apprentice learning about the basics at a University just outside of
their town. “Getting ready for the trip?” Cindy nodded, before taking out all
the ingredients she need for a sandwich. “I wish they have chosen another day
for this field trip. A Monday of all days” Cindy said, her voice hinting at her
slight anger. “Don’t worry about the
date of the trip. Focus on the trip” Henry advised. Cindy completed the
sandwich and placed the wrapped meal into a lunch bag along with a bottled
lemon tea.
Cindy began packing her book bag, but a music sheet
fall out of her music binder, Henry picked the sheet up out of curiosity. “Hey,
is this the song that…”Cindy took the music sheet from Henry’s hand.
Yes, and I done struggling with the foolish song. I
already told her I’m not going to play that silly song and I even tried.
Besides, I have too many events I need to study for” Cindy told Henry, who gave
her a suspicious glare. “Did you really try? Because you have a terrible habit
of giving up so easily” Henry pointed out. “I did tried. I spent hours on the
song, but got nowhere” Cindy explained, her voice Henry scanned her face for
any signs of lies. “Okay. At least talk to your Piano teacher before completely
giving up” Cindy slowly agreed, concluded she would talk to Mr. Grey tomorrow.
With all her supplies and lunch ready, Cindy leave her house to head to school.
The volunteer arrive at her high school thirty minutes later, having just
enough time to make it to her first period class before the tardy bell. The
volunteer would leave English early to meet up with her US History class for
the trip to Springfield, Illinois.
Before long, Cindy was among twenty students waiting for a single iconic
school bus to arrive.
Cindy looked around to notice everyone chatting with
their friends, or occupied by someone else, she was alone. Cindy was very
friendly and helped classmates, but often felt lonely and alienated due to her
interests. Everyone in all her classes seem to be interested in completely
sports, recent drama and top television shows. Cindy was very different, she
loved gaming and anime/manga. In short, Cindy felt she could never talk openly
to her classmates, she does not know exactly what everyone like, and the
volunteer had remained her “little world” until high school. Cindy, however,
was willing to learn the topics and interests of her pear. Now, the volunteer
was listening to her songs looking out of the window. Cindy enjoyed looking at
the passing scenery, it assured her she was going somewhere and not idle
wasting her life.
The bus traveled across Bloomington, Illinois and
Mr.Wolfe noted particular statues or structures to the students as the bus
rode. The bus made a quick stop at McDonalds for anyone to eat. A McDonald of all places!?! Cindy
questioned with criticism. The stop was short and the bus began to move again.
On the ride through Joliet, Cindy manage to spur up some chat with the student
next to her. To the volunteer’s surprise, Paul enjoyed many video games Cindy
was aware of. It was refreshing to find someone to talk too. Eventually, Cindy
retreated to her previous quiet state.
Cindy looked into the window beside her and felt a
chill keep slowly into her spine. The bus
was too close to trees, at least the road was….scary” Cindy thought, noting
the bus was traveling on a dirt path of some kind. Cindy tried to push worried
thought out of her mind, before fear began to spark into her mind. In one swift
to the left, Cindy felt the gravity shifted and her vision began flashing. Her
mind began panicking wildly, and her heart began to shatter from pain caused by
fear. Cindy felt like a tumbleweed in the bus as it fell over the edge, hoping
broken glass did not puncture anything vital. Her vision blurs, and she enter
her subconscious. Cindy never expected
her memories before her “death” to be so…bleak. It was just fun memories with
loved ones, except for a small black speck. Suddenly, one sad memory emerged.
“Cindy!” wined a six-year old girl. “No, I told you
before. I can’t play this song!” Cindy shouted. “It was a lie, but I don’t have the time, energy or tolerant”. “Please!”
the girl begged again, giving Cindy a music sheet. “I tried playing the song”
Cindy explained. Cannot stand the lyrics
and presentation of the song, it was atrocious. “Angel, I’m sorry. Maybe a
different song?” Cindy asked, before Angel shoved the music sheet in her hand
and ran out of the room.
