Week Blog Review(Week 3)

Week Blog Review(Week 3)

This week was a little productive with testing new homework methods, a bit strange, sometimes more frustrating compare to the first two weeks. Monday was a relatively normal day with assignments from Spanish II, Honor Geometry and US-History. Monday my classmates and I in Geometry learn about one of the important steps of proofing a math answer: Deductive questions. In Spanish II my Spanish teacher begin to learn about negatives and affirmatives such as nada, nadie, alguien and tambiĆ©n, and was assigned homework on Monday and Wednesday to memorize the terms.  English II was discussing some of the beginning messages of the book Raisin In The Sun. Drivers' Ed, US History and Chemistry was also discussion on the current section the class were reading. Tuesday was very different from the other days of this school week because after school I went shopping with my mom to mark the first day of my goal to explore my surroundings more and try to socialize more. On Monday I realized how lonely I was without my best friend and was very depressed once I got home, leading to my mom and I to set places to go each week. This week was the dress store Ross. Once done, we arrived home at around 5:10 and I begin to finish my US History homework . Wednesday was the last average day of this school week, I also begin to test my resilience against  distractions while completing my homework at home. I failed if I counts listening to music on my while doing work a distraction. Thursday and Today was the most strange and frustrating days of this week due to time consuming tasks. Thursday was strange due to the day being a half-day instead of the normal day, meaning students gets to leave school at 1:39 p.m. I would have enjoyed an extra two hours of homework, and study time if the bus did not arrived at the bus stop at 2:10 p.m. I was dismayed by the bus coming later than I wanted too, but I befriend the freshman who asked me and my friends on the first day of school. Today was just strange due to a bus traveling on Washington Blvd instead of Madison and I decided to eat at Subway then eat my usual lunch. Piano class and Chemistry became very different this week. My piano class is beginning to become a bit difficult with the addition of sharps and the requirement of reading notes immediately, making me a bit discouraged in the class sometimes.  My chemistry class begin to finally move on to doing more work and I along with my classmates was assigned our first paper on a lab.

Week Blog Review (Week 2)

Week's Blog Review(Week 2)

This week was more satisfying with completion of work then last week, not counting few assignments and inter stress attacks. Tuesday was the most agitating and overall the worse day I had thus far in the school year, but the other four days was fine. Thursday and Friday was near-perfect days that slowly eased my stress and created more determination within inside my heart and mind. The main reason for my stress on Tuesday was lack of sleep and overthinking. On Monday, I had only trouble in Piano with the playing of notes using both my left and right hand, the rest of my classes were fine even my Spanish 2 class. The homework I received on Monday was fairly easy and I finish the assignments by 7:30, but then I had to finish typing my English paper in which I stopped at 10.P.M. I soon to regret this decision because the next day I spent TWO hours completing my Geometry homework due to writing excessive answers to each question. I had originally planned to begin finishing the English paper at 7:00 p.m. but it was 9 p.m. instead and I took up until 11:00 still not completed. My finally attempt to finish the paper in the morning at school on my laptop failed and I only had three pages finished; I was at that moment was stress about if I was gong to get a bad grade for not completing the draft. I didn't, I stress way too much. Mr.Rehak just wrote the first mistake of my paper-paragraph indents-and hands me back my paper. I was so relieved and I finished the draft the very same day and corrected the paper on Thursday. I turned in the paper to my blog today, all I did was copy my original document on Microsoft word then pasted the paper on my blog, then publish the paper. Otherwise, the whole week been great. I most likely have a great score on my Drivers' instruction test I took on Wednesday, found time in my schedule to practice the piano and I don't have a troubles in Spanish now after doing wordplay. My Spanish teacher even offered me a suggestion of changing my class status from Regular to Honors if I wanted because both regular and honor Spanish was basically the same with just a the grade scale changing. I already planned at that moment to talk to mom about the change and agree to the status change. I have many plans to have me remember and master my all notes from Spanish 1. One of the most creative ideas is writing fan fiction in Spanish about the cartoon Happy Tree Friends and how I would imagine their lives without the crazy deaths in each episode; just the characters having fairly normal lives in human form instead of their animal forms. Now the only class I'm having trouble in Piano, but I'll find out the solution. The week at first was a bit challenging but later I adapted back into my normal routine and even discover better homework methods.

My First Time In My Neighborhood(Editied)

My First Time in My Neighborhood

The air was chilling to the skin, but I was protected by the layers of my coat and the inter-walls of my mom’s car as we road to the new neighborhood where my family and I would be taking residence beginning of February, 2010. I had glances of this neighborhood before the move as my parents would drive past the church that was on Cicero and Washington Blvd. The apartment we drove up, two-flat apartment we now live in, looked smaller compare to the large house we moved from just a few days before. The exterior of the house did not reflect the spacious inside of the rooms: a living area with a fireplace that reminds me of the ones from movies, a dining room with a large series of 1ft by 1ft mirrors collaged together centered to the west of the room, a kitchen, four bedrooms, a small pantry, and two bathrooms. The house also had two large bush trees at the two front sides of the house that birds would loiter in during the morning and afternoon. My grandma and our neighbor living in the apartment above would throw bread or bird seeds onto the sidewalk to feed the small city birds that endure the cold harsh winters of Chicago instead of flying south; a seasonal route taken by Canadian Geese that would live in Chicago from June until October. A closer observation of my new neighborhood from my apartment’s balcony and revealed, an abandon building, multiple of two-flat apartments, two churches, a restaurant, one four-flat apartment a daycare and a clinic.

The abandoned apartment was on the right side of my apartment and like many abandon apartments it created a sense of small dread and discomfort for many people who bear their eyes to the wasted shelter; the building was on the west of our apartment. The abandon building had evidence of fire damage on the right side of the house, three broken windows on the front of the house and the other two on both side, and wooden planks attached over the entrances to the building to prevent unwanted entry. As of the July of this year, the bushes that were on the right side of the building were removed first before the brick building. Not only is the demolition of the building a large relief for the entire neighborhood, now the sun’s ray finally enter through my window. Further right was a clear, grass field with a large shrub in the middle of the grass plain that almost counteracts the unsightly view of the building. The field was with only a few traces of trash tossed by people in front of the field and in the alley, but otherwise cleaned from time to time by the city. Glancing at the grass lot would sometimes revive my memories of playing in my old backyard for me. The backyards of the neighborhood were the relatively the length and width of a two-flat apartment’s perimeter, which was one of the problems I had with my apartment as the one my family had before was double the square feet. To the east of my home was the two churches, and the restaurant. One of the churches is completely gone now similar to the abandoned building, nothing more than a flat concrete surface resting where they demolished the church. When I moved to the neighborhood, the church was functional with few members entering the building each Sunday. Now the removal of the abandoned Church has also lighten the atmosphere of the block with four trees planted on the right side of Kilpatrick; the other church is functional with most families in the neighborhood being members of the remaining church. The restaurant is one of the visual points of my neighborhood as the eatery sports dark green, pale green, orange and pale orange with the roof, the wooden walls and fence painted the secondary colors. The color scheme was very vivid compare to the colors of most building in my neighborhood ranging in dark brown, rust brown, grey, and brown.

For the first 6-8 weeks of first moving into our apartment, my family and I did not knew many neighbors. The first neighbor my family made was the man living on the second floor above us who also is the brother of our landlord; he’s a kind man I could say for the least. The two-flat apartment to the left of us hosts an older family; the residents living on the first floor are very kind and would later sometimes speak a hello to my grandmother as she sat on the balcony.  The tallest building was the four-flat apartment that stood near the very end of the right side of the block that never fails to intimidate many people of its stature when they veer their eyes to the very top of the building. Further to the western side of the block was more two-flat apartments, the residents of those flats would be either across from us or a large distance away on the same side of the street due to the field between us. Dark brown, rust brown, grey, and brown were the main colors of each building with a few exceptions of three apartments and the restaurant.  Dark green vines would entangle within the cracks and crevices of five buildings foundation and bricks for years, slowly surrounding the front exterior of the building from the roof to the ground.  The neighborhood was pretty average with groups of neighbors knowing their own cliques that would range depending on the closeness of their houses; the neighbors across the street tends to have parties at night.

Cicero, the third largest street in Chicago, is within my neighborhood and was the street my brother and I would pass each school day to school. Sometimes the foul smell of gas would linger near Cicero due to the semi-trucks, construction trucks and school buses that would discharge black and grey smoke the color of charcoal and clay. However, the neighborhood entirely maintains the scent of grass especially after the city’s workers mows the abandoned lot. The sky at dawn is a very pale blue with dull grey clouds to the south and the sun beginning to come over the horizon in the east. Both the clinic and the daycare rests beside Cicero. The daycare was a white-colored building with one large letter in each window when combined formed “Daycare”. The clinic was across from the daycare with a makeshift golf-course in the backyard of the clinic. Each day a night guard would stay in the clinic to protect equipment from thieves. Most information I gained about the people of the neighborhood were from my grandma, as she explained that he would play golf in the back of the clinic. The course was a very small one with about 50ft by 20 with white cords marking the boundaries of the course, small thin pipes marking the location of the holes and flags. Planted and wild flowers lived in my neighborhood; they would stand on the left side of the sidewalk and slowly drifts by the wind. On the path to my elementary school there was an abundance of more flowers, bushes and trees; the flowers ranged among the colors yellow, purple, pink, blue, white and orange in different shades and tints.

Each morning the typical bird chirping is heard, as two-six nests could be seen in each twenty feet high tree, their small nests particular in a row of vegetation I would pass on my path to school. My small community also hosts many stray cats that wonder through the neighborhood mainly at night and I would take the time to mentally name some of the cats I see during the day; there is also a family of rabbits that also inhabits the community with its population unknown and probably dwindled. Only a few cases of stray dogs occurred in my neighborhood, more people owned cats than dogs in my community, yet it is uncommon to see a stray cat or a stray dog wondering in the neighborhood. Four signs are apparent in the neighborhood as well, a wooden rule sign being the most recognizable. The wooden sign seemed to have be placed for decades as hints of erosion appears on the edges of the signs and the small cracks embedded in the wooden plank that lists common rules such as “No loud music” and “No loitering”.  The other signs were advertising signs for apartment flats for sale or rent. The first day of my neighborhood and over the next four years had only a few incidents of fights as the main problems of my neighborhood are car collisions due to people driving over the speed limit or not yielding when by law they must. This is a good neighborhood with not much violence compared to some unfortunate neighborhoods, but not as carefree and trusting as surburb neighborhoods.

Review of Christpher Columbus

Review of A Spectacle of Great Beauty

In the primary-source account from Christopher Columbus himself, he began describes the scenery, ,vegetation and the appearance of the indigenous people as he and his man explored the new land that he believed was part of India. Christopher Columbus then wrote in the letter of shyness of native people's toward him and his men before they native people grew enough courage to interact with them directly. From there, he explains the personalities and knowledge of the native people with honorable traits and the new curiosity and generosity  the Native Indians had toward him and his crew after the locals have grew to understand that they were not going to harm them; giving their new visitors gifts, drinks and food. Further in the letter the great explorer wrote about his journey to other islands of the new land he found to discover that all the locals he meet had the same language and culture. Finally, he describes his thoughts on the indigenous people's generosity between each other, and of their appearance in greater detail.

Week Blog Review(Week 1)

Week Blog Review(Week 1)

The first week of school was fine; each day was without many incidents and stress. The first day of school(Tuesday) was a bit eventful due to me going to all my classes for the first time. I was very disappointed when I learnt that I shared only one class with my best friend Emily, one class with Daisy and no classes with Cindy.  I felt lonely without them, I learnt throughout the four days that I had lost my sense of greeting new students for the sake of knowing them without any fear. I, however, did recognize a few students in each class I had that I remembered from last school year. Advisory was good, the room we go to had changed to 281. It took me three days to go the short-way to the room instead of going a circle on the second floor of the Arts Building. First period Regulars Beginning Piano regular is thus far my favorite class. On Tuesday I had to go back to the room during my lunch period to ask Ms. Wiggins about sharps, flats, and intervals because I was confused about the difference of the terms. Ms. Wiggins also taught us more piano terms such as enharmonic notes, and accidentals on Wednesday and Thursday.  Today was the best of the four days for piano class, the teacher taught us how to play beginner songs, Ode to Joy and Lean on me.  Ode to Joy is amazing to practice during my lunch period, I practice pressing the keys C,D,E,F, and G correctly for the first 20 minutes of my lunch period. I felt exhilarated when playing the first two verses of the song, I felt empowered by the beginning verses of was playing and felt hope that I could play more well-known pieces of music; hearing Ms. Wiggins play in the room was also nice.

My second class was Honors Geometry, which was taught by Ms. Dotson. The first day was a hilarious start when the entire class was momentarily locked out of the class because the last student closed the door when we left outside the classroom and Ms. Dotson left her keys inside the room. Outside the room the class choose two options that Ms. Dotson would give us to understand what type of method of teaching do the majority of the class prefer along with other social media interests. The first assignment was for her to analyze how much to each student in the class remember from their prior math classes. The following days was simple reviewing of basic geometry terms that is usual introduced in sixth or seventh grade; it was a great refresher for me personally and I still have notecards from seventh grade. I completed each assignment on time each of the four days, the Thursday's assignment revealing to me that I need much more reviewing to do to remember many lessons I learnt from prior classes.

My third period class is Regulars Spanish 2. The class was very frustrating on the first two days of school for me. On the two days I realized how much information I forgotten over the 3 months and how I couldn't form correct sentences that I could have before the summer break; it anger me inside. I was better with understanding the lessons on Thursday when Ms. Gomez helped me by assuring me that I don't have to rush or felt any negativity over not remembering everything. On Friday, I was given the opportunity to learn some of the names of my classmates for partner assignments upcoming next week, I partnered up with both previous classmates from prior classes and new classmate. I also developed a plan for this weekend to review my Spanish notes from last school year to rewrite important and common words involving greetings/goodbyes, people, activities, adjectives, places/occasions, and school.

Honors English 2 is my fourth period class, which still impresses me now after three days, The teacher was the very few teacher I had that took the time to repeat the names of all their students to remember each name the best they could. Tuesday was a day of the class spending half the class getting to first know each other by hearing the names of each of our classmates, which I enjoyed. There were only a few teachers I had before this class that would take the time to try their best to memorize the names of their students. but his effort is double the difficulty as he must have around 100-200 students in total to teach. The teacher also has his student each day for the very first ten minutes of his class write in a journal of anything concept or topic they want, of course explaining anything inappropriate or serious going to be reported. I took the journal opportunity to express how mentally furious I was at myself for not remembering basic Spanish in period three. The journal report for Wednesday, and Thursday was more positive and hopeful for my worries in Spanish class and included my favorite moments in Piano class. Today was important the class created blogs, which was great for me because I was having a  hard time creating my blogs alone. Once completed, I also added a few more details such as interests, favorite movies, and music.

Fifth period class is P.E. 2: Drivers' Ed. On the first day Mr. Wiegmann assigned seats and explained some of the basic beginner rules of driving and important Illinois laws that we must follow in order to gain all the privileges of driving in Illinois. On Tuesday I was a bit bewildered by the complexity the entire progress of becoming a legalized Illinois driver and the multiple procedures one must do to maintain the status of a Illinois driver. Our first homework assignment was to read chapter 1, which was fairly easy with only a few pages. Drivers' Ed is the most average class I have, the lessons in the class is very informative and a bit lackluster unlike my other classes, I still appreciate the lessons thus far as learning them is the very first step to become a driver. On Wednesday and Thursday Mr. Wiegmann further describe the progress and review chapters 1,2 and 3. Friday was a strange day for this class because Mr. Wiegmann have the class watched a video about driving. We watched two other videos the day before, but what made this video practically unusual was the lessons of driving was portrayed differently. In the video, four teen students were in a game show competing with over the grand prize: A brand new car. The first half of the contest was two contestants paired up would drive to the location they received and each of the contestant is observed and graded by the 'host' of the show. The second half was each of the contestant answering question in a game studio in a normal game show style, when a contestant get one answer wrong they are eliminated. Throughout the contest, clips of people would explain tips and facts of driving such as reading signs, explaining the consequences of disobeying the laws and understanding the law.

Regular United States History was my next class after P.E. 2, taught by Mr. Dziedzic(still have trouble pronouncing his last name). Over the four days the class learnt about English colonies and made comparisons between colonial society to our society now. Each day there would be a informative debate between students and the teacher involving a question Mr. Dziedzic asked about a topic.  Each day the entire class would discuss about the section that the teacher assigned the day prior as homework, this method seems very efficient in teaching without the teacher having to spend two days to discuss the topic. The first day of school the entire class was taught about the discoveries of America by the Vikings and a Chinese fleet before Christopher Columbus had discovered America; he never discovered that he found an new country instead of part of Asia before his death. On Wednesday we review and discuss about the differences and connections between the Southern, Middle and New England Colonies. Thursday was discussion of colonial life and rules while Friday was on the social status of the different groups of the colonies

Seventh period is my lunch period. I was at first disappointed when I first received my schedule on registration day. I had hypothesized that I would had trouble with my lunch period because my lunch period last school year was perfectly situation between my classes at fourth period.. I manage well over the four days by eating at least two snacks before my seventh period, which is a large relief to me. My best friends Emily and Daisy also shared this lunch period, which also made me feel more comfortable and confident about the lunch period. For the first two days of school-Tuesday and Wednesday-I sat in Red house with five of my other friends. I have learn from last year about the lines of classmates, friend and best friend. The students who set with me was between classmates who I rarely talk to and friends who I have conversations with sometimes. I didn't felt completely noticed as a friend to them, mainly because I knew that they only sat next to me because I was sitting alone at a very clean table next to the window;in other words, I may have look like a seat-saver to them. On Thursday and Friday I sat with my real friends in Gold house, which happens to be close to my eighth period class: Regulars Chemistry.

My last class is Regular Chemistry taught by Ms. Marquez, who is also the  instructor for the American Chemical Society Club at the school. Having Ms. Marquez as my teacher will enable me to talk to her more about the ideas for the club as I want to help the club become a popular one such as the Bio Club, Japanese Club, Gamer Club and Anime Club at the school. I want to help the club by adding phrases to the bleak blue and yellow American Chemical society board right next to room 342. I believe a good experiment is repeating life hacks involving real chemistry. On Tuesday, the class was given Finn's Scientific Student Safety Contract and Ms. Marquez explain fifteen of the basic rules in a science lab to follow to prevent accidents in the lab. These basic rule includes recommended clothing, eye protect, behavior rules, and treatment of tools. Wednesday was spent reviewing and answering question from the safety contract. The teacher also showed the class two videos about lab safety made by the American Chemical Society. The class was given a pre-chemistry test on Thursday that works in a similar way to the REACH test. I believe I did very good for the pre-year test, the only questions that I may have wrote a wrong answer for being questions about metals and chemical properties.Friday  was the safety quiz on some of the questions from the Safety contract; the test itself was the safety exam practice sheet Ms. Marquez had suggested the class printed from Edline.net to use to practice for the quiz. Afterward, the class was given their first experiment. of observing what occurs when doing a series of instructions involving copper chloride crystals and aluminum foil. I didn't get the right result on the first try, I theorized I must have put all the copper chloride crystals in than just half of the amount. Monday I would get the opportunity to redo the experiment because the teacher decided that the entire class would see better results if the experiment was done for the entire class period.
