Branches of Awareness and Self Motivation: William Carlos William
"Good evening everyone, and thank you for your
time tonight. People I would like to thank for this award are the directors of
the Poetry Society of America, publishers of Young Monthly, Eric Keith-the
publisher of most of my poems, my family member, the high school I attended and
finally Spencer Technology Academy. This award, the William Carlos William
award, was created in honor of the writer for his influential and everlasting accomplishment
in imagism. William Carlos William created poetry works such as Paterson and
Kora in Hell, beaming with delineated scenes which brought the entire story to
the mind of its reader. While his works have went obscured by T.S Eliot’s works
in the 1920s, his works’ popularity would gain momentum in the 1950s. Now, the
author himself is acknowledge to a high degree with this very award.
"My journey in poetry began a light and frivolous tread
when I was ten years old in middle school, a special project sparked my early
interests to write more poetry. It was in the month of October in 2010, an
opportunity appeared before the sixth grade to display their stories, poems and
other form of literature in a professional then white book. Within a week, I
created the two poems Lily and Crow for the entry with drawn cover. The poems
were short, ranging from five to six stanzas, explaining the proposed life of
the dragons Lily and Crow separately. The poem Crow was attuned to the general
themes of unfavorable happenstance and mental struggle of my poems from my adolescent.
Ironically, the first two poems I created for an assignment in high school were
not legitimately named until the following year and were more opened to
interpretation. My recent poems experimented with simple concepts twisted
to entitled closer interpretation for readers.
"From writing poetry, some fortunate writers are recognized for their art to the public by a award, honorable mention or their work displayed somewhere-not necessarily an education institution. An aspect of human nature is attention, acceptance and the desire of acknowledgment. All writers strive to have their output for society to be noticed by at least their intended audience, and thus their message would successful send. Occasionally some writers feel they are accepted by society for paying such a valuable contribute to the nation when their work is gifted a special fashion in display or achievement. However, this idea is a double-edged sword when the scenario combined with personal anxiety and low self-esteem create a false security of only feeling accomplished when one is acknowledged. Writers who endure this situation are usual young writers, teens or young adults like myself, who would feel they could not uphold themselves without consideration from others. This line of thinking can be a crucial and potential dagger on it path to the heart of true and passionate writing, as the writers would only write what other would want. All together, destroying one of the very purpose of writing: Self-expression of one own thoughts, feelings and idea. We all, writers or not, must accept there is at least one person in this world who opinion is against yours. In fact, there will be one person who would hate your work either out of spite or dissonance according to their beliefs. It does not matter, as writing is as I said self-expression.
